The Virginia Florist

The Virginia Florist is one of the oldest and largest full-service floral-design businesses in the nation. Owned and operated since 1957 by just two families (the Olsons and the Greens), the Virginia Florist is still in its original location midway between Alexandria and Mount Vernon on the Virginia side of the Potomac River.
Ranked by Teleflora in the top two percent of all florists nationwide, the Virginia Florist is widely recognized as one of the region's busiest, serving not only the entire Washington area but also the nation and the world through our wire-service relationships. We're proud to include George Washington's Mount Vernon estate, the U.S. Supreme Court, the Kennedy Center, the Watergate and many of Washington's largest law firms, corporations and lobbyists among our regular weekly and special-events clients.
Our design team includes several of the most talented floral designers in Washington. Senior floral designer Shakeela Doskas has actually been named Washington's best in competition citywide. Born in Trinidad, she manages our worldwide flower-buying and ensures that The Virginia Florist always has an unusually broad selection of domestic and exotic stems on hand from Europe, Asia and the Americas.
Designers Ledis Reyes (a native of San Felipe, El Salvador) and Keiko kato Cox (born in Ishinomaki, Japan) bring distinctive backgrounds and extraordinary skills to their design work,
Jose Capestany, legendary designer and for 30 years the creative genius behind Washington's famed Watergate Florist, joined us in mid-2016, bringing with him perhaps the city's most devoted (and celebrated) clientele.
The Virginia Florist is famed for its selection of gifts as well as for its floral design. Interior designer Anne Allen manages the gift buying and directs our retail operations, which embrace fresh-cut flowers and gourmet/fruit baskets as well as Washington's most unusual selection of high-end gifts for him and her, including exotic fragrances, fine art and antique maps and prints.
